Primary Purpose of Department
The Niblock Student Center is a comprehensive student services office that provides advising, coaching, programming, and events to facilitate academic planning, career development, and professional growth for undergraduate business students. The professional development (PD) team is one of two teams housed within the Center. The PD team promotes skill development through experiential learning, creates and delivers professional development courses and programming, and engages students with industry. The Niblock Student Center operates within Undergraduate Programs in the Belk College of Business. Accredited by AACSB International, the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte offers outstanding business education programs in a variety of disciplines. The college has over 5,000 undergraduate students and over 90 full-time faculty members. The Belk College is one of the largest business programs in the Carolinas.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of the Business Honors Program implements career and professional development programming and educational strategies to advance honors education in the Belk College of Business. The Business Honors Program is a special educational and professional development program supported by the Niblock Student Center in collaboration with the Director of the Business Honors Program, the Associate Director of Professional Development, and other Honors College faculty and staff. The Assistant Director of the Business Honors Program will coordinate program admissions efforts, create and implement student programming suitable for an "honors experience," and instruct Honors courses in the Belk College of Business, including sections of BUSN 1101 and 1701.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of the Business Honors Program manages admissions, participant records, communications, and selection processes while serving as a liaison to key campus partners. The role provides instruction for designated business honors course sections, advises student leaders, and coordinates program events and engagement opportunities. The Assistant Director also mentors students and cultivates connections that support their academic, professional, and personal development.
Minimum Education/Experience
A Master's degree in career counseling, student development, higher education, or business is required along with 1-2 years of experience in business or student counseling at an academic institution.


Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • One to three years' experience working in an academic institution of higher education is preferred.
  • Academic advising and career coaching of undergraduate level business students is highly desirable, and direct knowledge of professional development for business students and a background in business administration is preferred.
  • Experience with career development programming, career readiness, and honors college students is preferred.
  • Direct knowledge of the business industry and understanding of desired competencies for business occupations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Slate or a Higher Education CRM is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess polished interpersonal communication skills and training and counseling skills. The candidate should demonstrate a professional demeanor that establishes credibility quickly, inspires confidence, and builds positive relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and maintain a high level of confidentiality, are required.
  • Outstanding presentation skills enabling effective, influential communication with a varied group of students, faculty, staff, alumni and business community is vital to this position. Attention to detail, task orientation, and ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to achieve institutional goals and objectives are expected. Proficiency with various computer applications, Microsoft Office, and web technology is an essential skill.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary.
