Position description

UCI invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to join the faculty of the newly formed Department of Systems Biology in the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine.

Systems Biology seeks to address unmet needs in the biological sciences at all levels of analysis, from molecules to species. It focuses on the understanding of biological networks and complexity, leveraging theory, models, experimentation, data science and AI. As it is a highly interdisciplinary field, qualified candidates may have backgrounds in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science or any biological subdiscipline, but are expected to have demonstrated a commitment to Systems Biology approaches in their research.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degree(s) and demonstrate evidence of a rigorous research program based on prior research productivity and future research plans. Applicants are expected to contribute to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and demonstrate a commitment to service and leadership at UCI and wider communities. Please submit a curriculum vitae, 3-page description of research interests and accomplishments, 1-page statement of teaching and mentoring experience, and the contact details for three referees. Information on the department is available at: Systems Biology | UC Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences

The successful candidate will be able to leverage and complement existing strengths of the Department of Systems Biology, as well as the larger Mathematical, Computational and Systems Biology research communities, as represented by the UCI Center for Complex Biological Systems.

A recipient of an NSF ADVANCE award for gender equity, UCI is responsive to the needs of dual career couples, supports work-life balance through an array of family-friendly policies, and is dedicated to broadening participation in higher education. UCI is a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI). These federal designations align with UCI's aspiration to be a national leader and global model of inclusive excellence. We seek faculty who are committed to promoting diversity, as well as diverse faculty who will be role models for our students.
