Temple University's LKSOM/Information Technology Department is searching for a Software Engineer 1 - Full Stack to join our team! Salary Grade: T26 Job Details: Position Summary: The role supports a mixed technology environment that includes legacy and modern web applications, SQL Server databases, vendor platforms, APIs, data integrations, ETL processes, reporting, automation, and application modernization. Primary assignments may emphasize application development, data integration and reporting, or another area based on organizational priorities and the employee's experience; however, both Software Engineers share responsibility for the broader applications and data portfolio and are expected to cross-train to support service continuity. Technologies may include Java, JSP, C#, ASP.NET, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, modern frontend frameworks, Python, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, RESTful APIs, PowerShell, Power Platform, Git, and related modern development and data tools. Essential Functions * Independently analyze requirements, design technical solutions, and manage assigned development and integration projects through implementation and ongoing support * Develop, enhance, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize web applications and related technical solutions * Maintain and support legacy Java/JSP and C#/ASP.NET applications while contributing to plans and projects that transition systems to modern, supportable technologies. * Design and develop responsive, accessible user interfaces using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and appropriate frontend frameworks * Develop and maintain SQL Server queries, views, stored procedures, database objects, and application data access components * Develop and support data integrations, ETL workflows, APIs, automated file transfers, and data pipelines connecting institutional and vendor systems * Create and maintain reporting and analytics solutions, including SSRS reports and other approved reporting tools * Build automation solutions using Python, PowerShell, Power Platform, or other appropriate technologies * Troubleshoot production application, data integration, reporting, and data-quality issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement sustainable resolutions * Integrate vendor-provided applications with school systems and develop additional functionality where appropriate * Apply secure development, data privacy, accessibility, testing, source control, change management, and deployment practices * Participate in code reviews and maintain source code and technical artifacts in Git or other approved version-control platforms * Document requirements, designs, code, configurations, data workflows, integrations, deployment procedures, and operational support processes * Build effective relationships with stakeholders; gather and clarify requirements, explain technical options, and provide recommendations * Manage multiple assignments and priorities, communicate status and risks, and escalate issues requiring leadership or broader institutional coordination * Cross-train with other team members and maintain sufficient documentation and shared knowledge to reduce single points of failure and support service continuity * Participate in Agile/Scrum or other established planning and development processes * Provide support for critical systems and perform occasional after-hours work for deployments, maintenance, or urgent production issues when necessary Required Education and Experience: Required Skills and Abilities: * Professional experience developing, integrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting software or data solutions * Working knowledge of at least one modern or enterprise programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript, with the ability to learn and support additional technologies * Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, including querying, data validation, and database objects * Understanding of web application architecture, APIs, systems integration, testing, deployment, and production support * Experience using version control, preferably Git * Ability to analyze business and academic processes and translate requirements into practical technical solutions * Ability to independently organize and complete assigned work while seeking direction or escalation when priorities, policy, architecture, or risk require leadership decisions Applications, Data, and Integration Capabilities: * Ability to support both legacy and modern technologies and contribute to application or data-platform modernization * Understanding of secure coding, accessibility, data privacy, data quality, documentation, and change-management practices * Experience with or ability to learn application development, ETL/data integration, reporting, automation, and vendor-system integration tools used by the school * Ability to troubleshoot across application, database, integration, and reporting layers Professional Skills: * Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills * Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with technical and nontechnical stakeholders * Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate progress and risks, and deliver reliable solutions with limited day-to-day technical supervision * Commitment to documentation, knowledge sharing, cross-training, and service continuity * Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings, nights, or weekends when necessary for deployments, maintenance, or urgent support Preferred Skills and Abilities: * Application development experience with Java/JSP, C#/ASP.NET, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular, or similar frameworks * Data integration and automation experience with Python, SQL Server, SSIS, RESTful APIs, SFTP, PowerShell, or related tools * Reporting or analytics experience with SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, data warehousing, or similar platforms * Experience modernizing legacy applications or migrating data and integrations to contemporary platforms * Experience with Power Platform, cloud services, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, or DevOps practices * Experience supporting vendor-provided academic, clinical, administrative, or student-information systems * Familiarity with higher education, academic medicine, FERPA, accessibility standards, and institutional data-governance requirements * Interest in responsible use of AI-assisted development and automation tools Temple University is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all in every aspect of its operations, including employment, service, and educational programs.
