Job Description

The WIC Nutritionist provides nutrition assessment, education, and counseling to WIC participants while ensuring access to program benefits and resources. This role supports participant-centered care, maintains confidential records, and helps ensure the WIC program meets quality and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nutrition assessments, including medical history, dietary assessments, and anthropometric and hematological measurements, to determine program eligibility

  • Provide participant-centered nutrition education, counseling, follow-up, and documentation

  • Prescribe and issue WIC supplemental food benefits based on participant needs and program guidelines

  • Connect participants with medical, social, and community resources

  • Explain WIC benefits, procedures, rights, and responsibilities to participants

  • Schedule appointments, answer phones, and maintain accurate participant records

  • Manage time and resources effectively to support efficient clinic operations

  • Participate in community outreach events promoting WIC, nutrition, and healthy living

  • Provide coverage at other WIC clinic locations as needed

  • Assist with training new staff and support the Clinic Supervisor with program activities

  • Maintain compliance with Agency, State, and Federal WIC requirements

  • Promote quality improvement, patient safety, cultural competency, and a positive participant experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a nutrition-related field from an accredited college, including at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition with at least one course in diet therapy or medical nutrition therapy and one course in community nutrition or nutrition in the life cycle. Nutrition courses must be AND accredited.

  • Verbal communication skills required to interview clients and discuss nutrition care plans and explain nutritional information.

  • Computer skills necessary (i.e. word processing and data entry).

  • Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to speak to small and large groups of individuals desirable.

  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, etc. Ability to drive to corporate and community facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years' experience in community nutrition desirable

  • Bilingual competency preferred
