Role Overview VersAbility Resources is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Government Contracts team in Yorktown, Virginia. In this hands-on outdoor role, you'll help maintain clean, safe, and professional grounds while supporting an important government contract. Daily work includes mowing, trimming, edging, landscaping, debris removal, and other seasonal grounds maintenance using commercial landscaping equipment and tools. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, seeing the results of their work, and being part of a team. While previous commercial grounds maintenance or landscaping experience is preferred, it is not required. What You'll Do *Perform commercial grounds maintenance in accordance with government contract requirements. *Mow, edge, trim, prune, plant, mulch, control weeds, remove leaves and debris, perform irrigation checks, and complete seasonal grounds maintenance. *Safely operate commercial landscaping equipment, including mowers, string trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, utility vehicles, and other assigned equipment. *Maintain landscaped areas, sidewalks, parking lots, grounds, and exterior areas to established quality standards. *Inspect equipment before and after use and report maintenance needs, malfunctions, or safety concerns. *Clean, maintain, and properly store tools, equipment, and supplies. *Follow workplace safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). *Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. *Complete required work orders, inspections, and documentation accurately and on time. *Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and government personnel. *Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required *Knowledge of commercial grounds maintenance practices and landscaping techniques. *Knowledge of safe operation and basic maintenance of commercial landscaping equipment and tools. *Ability to safely operate commercial mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and related equipment. *Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work independently. *Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions. *Ability to read and understand work orders, equipment manuals, safety information, and operating procedures. *Ability to obtain and maintain any background investigation, security clearance, certification, license, or credential required by the assigned government contract. Preferred *High school diploma or GED equivalent. *At least one year of commercial grounds maintenance, landscaping, lawn care, facilities maintenance, or related outdoor maintenance experience. *Experience operating commercial landscaping equipment. *Identification & Driver's License: A REAL ID-compliant driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required for access to the assigned government worksite. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This is an active, primarily outdoor position. Employees work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, and direct sunlight. The work environment may also include exposure to dust, pollen, insects, grounds-maintenance chemicals, uneven terrain, moderate to loud noise, and moving equipment. The position requires frequent standing and walking for prolonged periods, as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and reaching. Employees must frequently lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, materials, and debris weighing up to 50 pounds and safely operate commercial landscaping equipment and power tools. Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties and physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Schedule This is a full-time, onsite position working 40 hours per week at our Yorktown Naval Weapons Station location. Monday-Friday | 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Candidates must be flexible to adjust their schedule when necessary based on operational, customer, contract, seasonal, and weather-related needs. Compensation Notice: Compensation for this position is established by the applicable government contract and/or wage determination. The posted pay reflects the fixed rate authorized for this position and is not subject to negotiation except where permitted by applicable law or contract requirements. In addition to the applicable hourly wage, this position is eligible for a Health and Welfare benefit of $4.57 per hour, provided in accordance with the applicable government contract and benefit requirements. On Nov. 1st the Health and Welfare benefit will increase to $5.09.
