What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program.Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

The Cell Engineering team at Tesla is looking for a highly motivated intern to contribute to fundamental improvements on our knowledge of how cells work. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a world-class team developing Tesla's battery technology.In this role, you will guide the development towards reliable designs of new cell technologies. You will develop computer vision pipelines and tools to automate cell image analysis and manage critical data analytics of battery cell images. You will collaboratively address design reliability risks within program timeline and grow confidence for program level decision making. The ideal candidate will combine strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals with computer vision. Teamwork, analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail are all highly valued skills. Individuals at every level carry a tremendous amount of responsibility and should look forward to learning an incredible amount on the job.


What You'll Do
  • Develop backend, frontend, datasets, and tools that automate complex image analysis
  • Design, train, and deploy computer vision and deep learning models for defect detection, classification, and segmentation of cell images
  • Build and maintain scalable ML pipelines and containerized model deployments in production
  • Work effectively with engineers and conduct end-to-end analyses, from data requirement gathering, to data processing and modeling

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuinga degreeinComputer Science,Computer Engineering,Data Engineering,Data Science,or a related field
  • Significant,demonstratedtechnical contributions towards past projects
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g.,PyTorchor TensorFlow) and modern computer vision model architectures (CNNs, Vision Transformers, and segmentation/detection models)
  • Proficient use of modern AI tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, LLM/vision-language models, and agentic workflows) to dramatically accelerate development, analysis, and iteration speed
  • MLOpsskills across the full machine learning lifecycle - data curation and labeling, training, experiment tracking, CI/CD, model deployment, monitoring, and retraining
  • Familiarity with classic image feature extraction techniques
  • Proficient inPython/SQL/Git; Use ofKubernetes/Splunk/Redis/Docker is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00 + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
