What to Expect
Tesla's Cell Prototyping team is seeking a highly driven and experienced engineer to lead the design, validation, and process development of next-generation battery cell technologies through our prototyping activities at scale, with a focus on delivering innovative, high-quality electrode and cell prototypes. In this role, you will serve as the technical leader, driving efforts to assess and demonstrate new technologies for Tesla's future cell roadmap. You will leverage your engineering expertise to collaborate with subject matter experts across cell materials, qualification, mechanical design, and manufacturing to accelerate the advancement of new battery cell technologies.
What You'll Do
- Develop, qualify, and account for multiple or end-to-end cell manufacturing processes
- Lead a team of process engineers and technicians to manage daily operations and provide technical guidance at prototype or pilot lines
- Establish and standardize baseline conditions of cell manufacturing processes
- Develop and optimize process conditions for new recipes, designs, and materials
- Work with equipment and control teams to identify specifications for process innovation, and identify process risks, reliability, and trends to improve manufacturing quality, efficiency, and flexibility
- Conduct comprehensive failure analysis on aged cells to identify degradation mechanisms and root causes
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in Li-ion cell design, qualification, components, and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis, statistical process control, process capability analysis, PFMEA, and quality management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Deep hands-on experience in developing cutting-edge battery cell manufacturing processes
- Experience with laser welding processes, prismatic cells assembly, project management, battery module design, and/or supply chain management

Expected Compensation
$109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
