What to Expect
You will work as a member of Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Test Group to support commercial truck-level testing for Reliability, Durability, and Performance tests performed in-house and
at external test labs. Your primary objective is to execute vehicle-level tests in accordance with Tesla test procedures and protocols. This is a role that goes beyond driving. You will
execute tests with attention to detail, adapt as plans change, and work through problems as they appear on the vehicle, on the road, and at the test site. Travel to extreme-climate
locations for testing, validation, and transport is an expectation of this role. The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility, strong observational skills, and a genuine desire to
solve problems.
What You'll Do
- Operate pre-production Class 8 vehicles on public roads, private roads, and 3rd-party facilities according to specified test plans
- Support Reliability, Durability, and Performance tests in-house and at external test labs
- Cycle vehicle parts and components repeatedly throughout a shift (doors, liftgate, steering, ingress/egress, switches, thermal HVAC, etc.) per Test Procedure
- Operate a fleet of trucks and trailers to transport test vehicles and provide testing support
- Travel to extreme-climate locations for testing, validation, and transport of vehicles and equipment
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to confirm vehicles are safe for test activities and public/private road operations
- Collect and maintain high-quality data, including a manual logbook or ELD, and review outcomes with Autopilot, Thermal, Test/Design Engineers, and Engineering Fleet Managers
- Identify and accurately communicate changes in vehicle performance or behavior to engineering teams and technicians
- Learn new tools and systems needed to communicate with vehicles and stakeholders
- Collaborate with Bedplate, Engineering Service, Vehicle Test, Tesla Service, Non-Destructive Test, Autopilot, Firmware, and Design
What You'll Bring
- Valid driver's license with Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) and air brake endorsement
- Flexibility to work in extreme weather conditions outdoors, often in remote locations and on short notice - including weekends and holidays
- Availability for up to 50% travel to other Tesla facilities or remote testing locations to provide Test Operator support as required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to perform test cycles based on test procedures
- Capability to travel to unfamiliar locations and complete tasks with little to no oversight
- Ability to cycle vehicle parts and components efficiently and repeatedly for the duration of a shift
- Interest in following technical instructions to operate test vehicles, charging equipment, basic hand tools, and test/data-recording equipment
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills
- Willingness and ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new software and systems

Expected Compensation
$30.50 - $58.33/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
