Current Need

The current need is within the Advisory and Technical Accounting pillar of our Global Technical Controllership ("GTC") team, which is part of McKesson's Corporate Controllership organization. GTC serves as technical advisors to corporate and business unit management on complex accounting and financial reporting matters, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, business valuations, capital and financing transactions, and other significant or unusual business activities.

GTC is responsible for developing and maintaining enterprise GAAP accounting policies; establishing consistent accounting positions across the enterprise; supporting the effectiveness of applicable internal controls over financial reporting; monitoring accounting and regulatory developments; and advising on the accounting implications of evolving business needs. GTC partners extensively with business unit controllership functions and finance leaders, Corporate Development, legal, treasury, tax, shared services, corporate financial reporting, internal audit, and other stakeholders to determine the appropriate accounting and financial reporting for ongoing, new, and proposed activities.

The Senior Director of the Advisory and Technical pillar in the Global Technical Controllership, leads execution of these responsibilities and will report to the Vice President, Global Technical Controllership, and will have managerial oversight of the Advisory and Technical Accounting pillar of GTC and partners closely with the other pillars of GTC (including Valuations and Corporate Accounting Operations). The Senior Director will lead a team of highly skilled technical accounting professionals; establish priorities and review standards for the function; advise executive management on significant accounting, transaction, valuation, and reporting matters; and provide senior-level review of complex accounting conclusions before escalation to the Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, CFO, Audit Committee, and/or external auditors.

The position will lead GTC's involvement in significant transactions from initial evaluation and due diligence through transaction structuring, execution, purchase accounting, valuation, external reporting, and post-acquisition integration. The Senior Director will also oversee enterprise accounting policies and technical accounting governance, lead implementation of new accounting standards, and drive the effective use of technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence within accounting advisory processes while maintaining appropriate professional judgment, review, documentation, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership for the Advisory, Valuations & Technical accounting pillar of GTC, including setting the function's priorities, operating model, technical-review standards, stakeholder coverage, resource allocation, and delivery expectations.
• Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team. Provide coaching, succession planning, performance management, career development, and timely feedback, and maintain appropriate review and escalation protocols for significant matters.
• Manage multiple complex and confidential initiatives simultaneously.

Advisory

• Own the accounting and financial advisory workstreams for mergers, acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, divestitures, and other strategic transactions.
• Partner with business unit controllers and corporate leaders to evaluate alternative transaction structures, proposed business models, commercial arrangements, and strategic initiatives.
• Advise senior leadership on the financial reporting implications of significant or confidential initiatives. Prepare and present concise, decision-oriented materials for the Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer and CFO.
• Lead the preparation and review of significant-items reporting and Audit Committee materials relating to complex accounting, M&A, valuation, impairment, policy, and other GTC matters.
• Serve as a principal liaison with external auditors on significant accounting and transaction matters.

Technical

• Serve as a senior enterprise subject-matter expert on a broad portfolio of complex accounting and financial reporting matters, including, but not limited to: business combinations and divestitures; consolidation, variable interest entities, and equity-method investments; noncontrolling interests and redeemable noncontrolling interests; revenue recognition and contract costs; investments, derivatives, and hedging; restructuring and separation activities; software and other capitalized costs; foreign currency matters; materiality and financial statement error evaluations
• Direct the research, analysis, and documentation of complex accounting matters.
• Provide appropriate approval, concurrence, or escalation of significant accounting conclusions, including review of work produced by GTC personnel, business unit controllership teams, corporate functions, and external advisors.
• Own or oversee the maintenance of enterprise GAAP accounting policies and related interpretive guidance.
• Monitor new and proposed accounting standards and regulatory developments, assess their enterprise impact, develop implementation plans, and advise management regarding required changes to accounting policies, systems, processes, internal controls, and external disclosures.
• Maintain and execute applicable internal control responsibilities, including ownership or review of relevant SOX narratives, process flows, control documentation, and evidence supporting the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
• Promote the responsible use of technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence within accounting and finance.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge, satisfy continuing professional education requirements, stay current on developments in US GAAP, SEC reporting, transactions, and emerging technology, and promote technical learning and knowledge sharing across GTC and the broader controllership organization.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• At least 12 years of progressive professional experience in accounting, auditing, technical accounting, transaction advisory, valuation, financial reporting, or related fields.
• Significant leadership experience managing senior accounting professionals and complex, enterprise-wide responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience advising executive management on significant accounting, transaction, or financial reporting matters.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex matters clearly and concisely to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
• Proven leadership in building teams, developing talent, setting quality standards, and managing performance.
• Ability to manage a broad portfolio of concurrent projects, competing priorities, confidential matters, and compressed deadlines.
• Experience working across multiple functions, business units, geographic regions, and organizational levels.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX requirements.
• Strong technical research and writing capabilities, including experience reviewing accounting memoranda and executive-level materials.
• Sound professional judgment and the ability to make and defend conclusions in complex or ambiguous situations.
• Extensive experience identifying key accounting and financial implications complex transactions.
• Experience working with external auditors to execute efficiently on audit requirements.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Certifications, and Education

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
• Advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred.
• Active CPA license required.
• Current or recent Big Four public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and enterprise consolidation and reporting applications.
