What to Expect
This CAD Engineer role is central to Tesla's construction and design validation workflows, translating physical site conditions into precise digital models and CAD deliverables. You will use industry-leading scanning technology, BIM software, and robotic layout systems to ensure Tesla's construction projects are built accurately and efficiently. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring deep proficiency in CAD tools and 3D data processing across both field and office environments.
What You'll Do
- Perform high-accuracy 3D laser scanning using static and mobile scanner including Leica RTC360, NavVis VLX, Emesent standard scanning equipment on active and future construction sites, capturing data to support design, construction, and planning workflows
- Register, clean, and perform QA on point cloud datasets using Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360, and finalize processed data for delivery via Autodesk ReCap
- Import processed point cloud data into Autodesk Revit to support BIM integration, clash detection, and coordination with design teams, ensuring alignment, scale, and coordinate system consistency
- Prepare CAD deliverables in AutoCAD and Civil 3D to support layout workflows and construction execution
- Provide full support for robotic layout systems including CAD prep, control point setup, and real-time robot operation during pre-construction and early build phases, with preference for Dusty Robotics integration
- Collaborate with design, construction, and engineering teams to resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design documentation
- Use Bluebeam Revu for markup, QA, and document collaboration on scan and survey deliverables
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in construction surveying, reality capture, or a related field
- Proven experience operating Leica RTC360 and processing data through full point cloud registration and QA workflows using Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit for point cloud import, model validation, and proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for drafting, survey file preparation, and layout support
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for markup, QA, and document collaboration, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting, scheduling, and communication
- Background in industrial, manufacturing, or large-scale construction projects, with experience in as-built verification, deviation reporting, and BIM coordination in fast-paced environments (preferred)
- Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate with experience operating drones for surveying on construction sites
