Job Overview

The Welcome Center Screener is responsible for assisting with the screening/identification of students, at the Welcome Center and at schools, as well as assisting with the administration of other assessments administered by the Welcome Center.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.



  • Administers the VA state-approved EL eligibility assessment, to include online assessments, as well as other assessments administered by the Welcome Center.
  • Maintains accurate, confidential student records and enters assessment data into required databases and reporting systems.
  • Communicates assessment results and recommendations clearly
  • Ensures testing regularities of assessment materials, equipment, and supplies to include: accounting for needed materials when conducting assessments, properly storing materials upon completion of assessments, and communicating needed supplies.
  • Assists with maintaining Welcome Center Screening room supplies and resources.
  • Remains abreast of Welcome Center and EL Department policies and practices, complete annual WIDA Screener trainings and attend Welcome Center Screener CLTs.



Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

Education

Associate's degree or two years of post-secondary education

Experience

Experience administering and/or scoring language proficiency assessments

Experience working with English Learners in a K-12 school setting

Licenses and Certifications

Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
