Job Summary

This position will act as one of the assistant clinical research coordinators for research projects in Internal Medicine: Cardiology. The primary responsibilities of this position will involve day-to-day management of clinical trials in areas of data management and regulatory administration relating to new and ongoing clinical research in the department. The position requires the use of skills to independently or, with general direction, coordinate and follow through in the overall administration and outcome of clinical studies. The clinical research coordinator will have responsibility for on-call activities.

This position has a schedule of: 1:00-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Must be completed within 90 days from the date of hire: Certification of laboratory safety training must be achieved on an annual basis. Certification of the shipment of dangerous goods is required every two years * Certification from the University of California Annual Compliance Briefing for Researchers is required.
  • High School diploma/GED and/or sufficient experiance and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of clinical research trials regulations (e.g. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is essential.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology. Intermediate knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret federal, local, and institutional regulatory changes and decide how they will impact internal processes
  • Administrative skills and ability to exercise good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in making decisions.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate information, practices and procedures, formulate logical and objective conclusions and make recommendations for effective solutions
  • Demonstrate oral communication and interpersonal skills for effective, positive and congenial interactions and correspondence with the general public, co-workers, physicians, patients, caregivers, clinic staff, and other health care professionals
  • Display organizational skills and attention to detail so that large volumes of records can be accurately maintained and workload priorities can be determined in an appropriate way to accomplish a task or goal. Ability to multi-task and proactively communicate status of work.
  • Knowledge of clinical research trials regulations and IRB policies
  • Display writing skills including ability to compose reports and correspondence while utilizing correct grammar, spelling and punctuation as well as clearly documenting research data onto forms
  • Possess mathematical abilities to perform calculations involving basic accounting, body surface area (BSA) calculation and drug dosage calculations.
  • Ability to meet the scope of the program with general supervision and with frequent changes in priorities and deadlines.
  • Organizational skills in setting priorities, following through on assigned tasks and adhering to deadlines in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy to efficiently learn and utilize various electronic platforms for data entry and communications
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member in a diverse workforce

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences
  • Experience in Cardiology
  • Experience working on clinical trials or grants
  • Experience in Heart Failure
  • Knowledge and understanding of the field of internal medicine, preferably cardiology, as applied to clinical research
  • Knowledge of UCD EMR & patient scheduling systems

Department Overview

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is one of 13 divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine. The Division is comprised of 41 clinical/research faculty, 17 non-faculty academics, 7 contract MSP physicians, 20 clinical fellows, 16 volunteers and/or emeritus faculty, 7 administrative office staff, 3 NPs, 3 CRC, and many research personnel.

Department Specific Job Scope

The assistant clinical research coordinator (ACRC) will deliver high-quality clinical research care within a comprehensive cardiovascular outpatient clinic that includes subspecialties in electrophysiology (EP), heart failure (HF), and interventional cardiology. The ACRC will provide 20 hours per week of all aspects of clinical research including, but not limited to, screening, consenting, and enrolling patients; attending research procedures; conducting regulatory work in the form of IRB submissions; administrative work; and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The ACRC will support a multitude of clinical trials and will work with other members of the Cardiovascular Research Unit (CVRU) and assist senior staff. This role requires strong clinical acumen, the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team, and experience in managing complex clinical trials.
