Job Description:

As the Development Director you will oversee the development agenda of The Salvation

Army Elkhart, Indiana service areas assigned to the Corps. Serve as a representative to

advisory organizations, including oversight of advisory organization events, and providing

consultation to Corps related to advisory organizations. Responsibilities include various

development activities critical to the acquisition of resources needed to advance the

organizational mission. To ensure Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried

out.

What You Will Do:



  • Manage, direct, and coordinate the development function serving the Corps.
  • Oversee foundation relations - Engage in donor development, manage capital campaigns, participate in grant-writing, special events, media opportunities, etc.
  • Advance the capability of the development team and systems (donor relations, mail appeal, media campaigns, special events, planned giving/legacies, etc.
  • Manage all aspects of the mail appeal, operating, capital and endowment fundraising campaigns, and coordinate this activity with the Divisional Development department.
  • Work closely with the corps officers/leadership team to plan fundraising event's strategies, develop agendas and recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Work closely with leadership team on seasonal fundraising.
  • Coordinate media and public relations outreach (print, radio, television, service clubs, community organizations etc.)
  • Manage special events
  • Identify public relations opportunities
  • Serve as a liaison to the Advisory Board as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent

combination of education and experience.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience In the field of public relations and fund raising.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 30 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • A background in the principles of fundraising, and marketing preferred.
  • A minimum 1 year of supervision required


Supervisory Responsibility: Informal leadership - Determines work assignments,

priorities, and procedures for team members. Responsible for assigning, scheduling,

and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Provides training and coaching to team

as requested.

Travel: Some travel required

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment; may require some weekend and evening work.
