Media Planning & Strategy Lead

Part time - approx 12 hours per week

Fully remote

ASAP start working October through end of November

Working alongside our agency client's central strategy and paid media teams, the freelancer will bring local market insight, expertise and connections to strengthen our full-funnel marketing approach, challenge our thinking and identify opportunities to drive awareness, consideration and ticket sales.

Key responsibilities



  • Local market intelligence: Bring a strong understanding of the San Francisco media landscape, audience behaviors, cultural nuances, competitive environment and local sporting and entertainment calendar.
  • Strategy and planning: Work collaboratively with the central team to shape and challenge the event marketing strategy, including audience targeting, channel selection, media mix and campaign phasing.


    • Traditional / Direct Media: Linear TV, BVOD, Cinema, Radio, Print, OOH/DOOH, Direct Digital Display/Video.

    • Digital Platforms: Meta, Google (Search, Display, YouTube), TikTok, Snapchat, Spotify and other Digital Audio.
    • Programmatic: Display, Online Video, Connected TV, Digital Audio, BVOD, Programmatic DOOH.
    • Bonus: Paid Partnerships: Publishers, Content/Editorial Partners, Social Creators/Influencers (through TikTok and Meta creator marketplaces, with an anticipated focus on micro-creators), Podcast Sponsorships/Partnerships.


  • Local connections: Leverage existing relationships and networks to facilitate introductions and explore relevant opportunities where appropriate.
  • Campaign localization: Provide recommendations on messaging, creative approaches and activation ideas that will resonate with local audiences.
  • Client collaboration: Participate in key planning discussions and workshops, helping to present and articulate local market recommendations to SailGP stakeholders.


Ideal experience:



  • Strong background in integrated marketing, media strategy or event marketing, ideally within sport, entertainment or live events.
  • Excellent knowledge of the San Francisco/Bay Area market, including local media, consumer behavior and cultural trends.
  • Experience developing full-funnel paid marketing campaigns across both digital and traditional channels.
  • Established relationships across relevant local media, marketing and partnership networks.
