| Position Highlights |
The laboratory of Dr. Lya Yin of the Translational Cardiovascular Research Center (TCRC) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician I. This position will provide the oportunity to learn skills needed to aid in research projects by performing a variety of laboratory tasks and experiments. Guided by the instruction from Dr. Yin and other senior lab personnel, the Research Technician I will gain knowledge to manage mouse colonies, perform histology and immunostaining, acquire and analyze fluorescent and micro-CT images, and other tasks if needed. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Under supervision will perform histology and immunostaining experiments.
- Be given detailed instruction to acquire images and assist with processing and documenting results under direction of senior laboratory personnel.
- Follow established safety regulations, laboratory protocols, and institutional guidelines while performing work.
- Assist with routine maintenance activities for genetically modified mouse colonies under established protocols. Performing rodent work and related experimentation procedures; including dissections, biological compound injections, and glucose tolerance tests.
- Be capable to maintain laboratory space and equipment to ensure proper operation and cleanliness.
- Under guidance of senior staff will perform RNA extraction / real time PCR (qPCR), protein extraction and Western blotting.
- Will become familiar with routine cell culture techniques to support to the overall study objectives and research goals.
- Will to work closely with postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and principal investigators to support ongoing projects.
- Attend and participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to handle the mice, perform cell culture or genotyping.
- Ability to analyze research results.
- Ability to report results to the PI and in the laboratory meetings.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Prior work experience not required.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
- Familiarity with animal work, genotyping, cell culture or molecular analysis.
- At least one year of college education in biomedical science, with some bench work and animal study experience.
