Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $5,540 - $5,817 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The salary range for this classification is $5,540 to $7,893 per month.

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Recruitment and Special Programs, the Recruitment Counselor's primary responsibility is to implement data-informed recruitment strategies and provide services in the areas of counseling, admission advising, follow-up, recruitment event coordination, presentations, and other recruitment activities targeted to high school, community college, adult learner, returning, and other prospective student populations to support the university's FTE and enrollment goals. The Recruitment Counselor also serves as the primary liaison to assigned Academic Colleges, designing, coordinating, and implementing recruitment strategies that increase applications and enrollment yield and support successful onboarding and transition to Fresno State.

Key Qualifications

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare detailed written reports and correspondence.
  • Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and communication techniques when engaging with individuals in difficult or sensitive conversations.
  • Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
    • A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field.
  • Skilled in computer software, word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, databases, PeopleSoft, and social media.
  • Experience working with outreach or recruiting programs.
  • Experience working as a lead.
  • Knowledge and understanding of special student populations' academic needs and the challenges they face in accessing and navigating higher education
