Responsibilities

The Geotechnical Field Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and execution of geotechnical field operations across multiple projects. This role ensures efficient scheduling, resource allocation, and communication between field staff, project managers, and office personnel. The Geotechnical Field Coordinator plays a critical role in maintaining productivity, safety, and quality in field activities while supporting operational performance and client service, in alignment with company standards and Core Values.

Responsibilities

  • Layouts borings and test pits by both conventional surveying and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
  • Observes and classifies test pits and soils
  • Performs hand auger borings, DCP testing, soil logging, and other geotechnical field work
  • Communicates daily with site contractors, project managers, and ECS personnel
  • Classifies samples obtained from drilling operations and reduces GPS data for utilization and production
  • Assists in department vehicle and equipment maintenance and documentation
  • Assists in managing and maintaining inventory of all department supplies and equipment
  • Assists in preparing and coordinating field testing schedules and subcontractors
  • Assists in training staff on field testing and sampling techniques, data reduction, and data interpretation
  • Assists in managing field activities for the drilling department
  • Supports the geotechnical department as experience and abilities dictate
  • Promotes safe working practices on all projects
  • May also work in the construction materials testing department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of related experience geared toward geotechnical drilling processes and procedures
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • If driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
  • Experience working with field crews, drilling operations, or construction materials testing
  • Prior experience in scheduling, coordination, or supervision of field staff
  • Knowledge of geotechnical drilling and subsurface investigation processes
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills with field staff, PMs, and leadership
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical field operations and construction practices
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to respond to field challenges quickly
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Basic computer skills (scheduling, reporting, tracking tools)

  • The following US Military ranks would qualify for this position:
