The Department of Philosophy at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time faculty position in metaphysics or epistemology in the analytic tradition, broadly construed. The position may be filled at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, or tenured Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in metaphysics and other core areas of philosophy, including intermediate logic, and supervise graduate students. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program and participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service. The Department of Philosophy is housed within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. | Duties & Responsibilities |
Teaching (40%):
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in metaphysics and other core areas of philosophy, including intermediate logic; prepare and deliver course materials, assess student learning, and provide academic guidance and supervision to graduate students. Standard teaching load: two courses per semester.
Research (40%):
- Develop and maintain an active scholarly research program in metaphysics, epistemology, or related areas; conduct original research and disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and other appropriate academic activities.
Service (20%):
- Participate in service to the Department of Philosophy, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the University of Arizona, and the philosophy profession.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of metaphysics or epistemology in the analytic tradition
- Knowledge of core areas of philosophy, including intermediate logic.
- Ability to conduct and disseminate original scholarly research in philosophy.
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses effectively and communicate complex philosophical concepts.
- Ability to provide academic guidance and supervision to graduate students.
- Ability to contribute to departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Ph.D. in
Philosophy by the date of employment. - Area of specialization in metaphysics or epistemology in the
analytic tradition. - Preparedness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
metaphysics and other core areas of philosophy, including intermediate logic, and to supervise graduate students. - Assistant Professor applicants must demonstrate evidence of
a promising research agenda and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. - Associate Professor applicants must demonstrate an
established record of research, teaching, and service that would merit tenure at the University of Arizona.
