Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor of Surgical Instruction and Clinical Skills

The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.

The College is undergoing a major revision of the curriculum, from a traditional "Flexner" discipline-based structure to a systems-based model that integrates content across disciplines as well as between foundational and clinical sciences. Concurrent with the development of systems-based courses are new professional and clinical skills courses that will run in parallel each semester. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in developing these courses at the ground level.

The College has a split campus, with the first- and second-year instruction occurring on the University of Georgia's main campus, and the third- and fourth-year instruction conducted at the Veterinary Medical Center ( VMC). The VMC is approximately 2.5 miles from the main campus and is home to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Veterinary Education Center. The majority of clinical skills instruction will occur on the main campus. The main campus location has a dedicated laboratory for teaching surgery, and a dedicated teaching space, including holding areas and housing for large animal species. Additionally, starting in the fall of 2021, a 5000-square-foot building will become available as a dedicated space for conducting different aspects of clinical and professional skills instruction.

The University of Georgia, the nation's first chartered state-supported university, is a research-intensive land grant and sea grant university in the vibrant college town of Athens. Only an hour from Atlanta, Athens is a progressive university town with a rich history and is centered among beautiful surrounding landscapes.
