Job Summary: The Executive Dean reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development and will oversee and support instructional efforts and continuous improvement in program quality in academic/technical program areas that include diplomas, certificates, and associate's, degree offerings across the college's five campuses. The Executive Dean is responsible for the School's unit planning, program evaluation and development, corporate outreach, fundraising, enrollment and marketing planning, interdisciplinary initiatives in education and workforce development, and the management of its administrative and financial affairs.

The Executive Dean will be expected to: support faculty to deliver high-quality, innovative instructional programs that respond to industry requirements and the educational needs of our diverse students and community; participate in the shared governance of the college; and contribute positively to HACC's intellectual and collegial atmosphere.

The Executive Dean is responsible for sustaining and evaluating of revenue generating workforce programs and initiatives. The Executive Dean will seek grants that provide programmatic and student support for academic and technical programs. The Executive Dean will align the college academic and technical programs where possible with transfer institutions through articulations, apprenticeship program, credit for prior learning, and collaborates with internal and external partners to develop new instructional programs. The position requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, combined with a collaborative work style.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree and 5 years experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience.*

*Or a combination of experience and education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements: Valid driver's license.

Hiring Range: $88,332.00 - $110,416.00

Job Specific Task List:



  • Division Leadership and Administration:
  • Prepare and implements strategic plans;
  • Short and long-range goals to meet the College's goals;
  • Utilize internal and external trends, data etc. in the development of the college strategic plan;
  • Provide leadership for the College in fostering excellence in teaching and service to the community;
  • Ensure academic programs that challenge and encourage students in inquiry and application, in both current and future curriculum/program development and implementation;
  • Provide effective administration and management of the instructional programs and services within select School, including workforce development;
  • Recruit, retain, and support full-time, adjunct-faculty, Associate Dean/Dean, and support staff within School;
  • Develop and promote inclusive policies, practices, and programs that reflect a commitment to multicultural understanding and social equity;
  • Collaborate with faculty to foster a positive learning environment, including the adoption of teaching methods that support successful learning appropriate to a diverse student population;
  • Collaborate with faculty and other unit administrators to leverage resources, grants and support services across the School including procedures, and practices to improve student retention, progression, and completion;
  • Create and provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff;
  • Oversee assigned budgets, enterprise programs (workforce development) and provide supportive coordination, oversight, and evaluation of Department Chairs, faculty, and staff;
  • Support Department Chairs in the development and implementation of an annual/ semester course schedule including working in close collaboration with the Associate Dean.
  • In addition, work with the Executive Directors/Coordinators (WFD) to schedule workforce/customized program offerings that are responsive to adult-learners and the community needs;
  • Assure all technical program offering is in alignment with workforce demand and develop new programs as needed;
  • Adequately adhere to bargain union agreement, and constructively approach and resolve issues that arise within an organized labor work environment;
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate state, federal and college rules, procedures, and regulations;
  • Respond to appropriately to student concerns related to academic unit and discipline;
  • Annually participate in the review and planning for academic and workforce budget planning and adhering to institutional principles for Budget Management;
  • Contribute to and provide instructional leadership for college initiatives and strategic planning;
  • Oversee instructional planning within specified academic and workforce school while ensuring alignment with the college Academic Division Plan;
  • Align the School of (Public Service, BTI, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Science and Math) enrollment initiatives to the college Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) plan to assist with and advance the college's overall SEM goals;
  • Collaborate with others on campus to bring additional resources-including grants, contracts, and partnerships to expand and improve instructional initiatives;
  • Manage fees, coding, and related functions that pertain to academic and workforce development.
  • Assessment Activities:
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of academic/technical instructional programs;
  • Identify emergent needs;
  • Use data to support and inform decision-making;
  • Collaborate with faculty and advisory committees to conduct ongoing curriculum development, assessment, and revision to reflect innovative pedagogy and advances in technical disciplines;
  • Work with faculty, Department Chairs and Associate Dean to ensure the quality and integrity of program learning outcomes including general education outcomes and employment;
  • Complete annual faculty and staff evaluations while providing timely feedback;
  • Review and analyze enrollment, retention, and completion data; conduct annual program reviews;
  • Select indicators and tools to assess instructional efforts and assist all stakeholders in improvement efforts;
  • Create periodic reports that meet college, accreditation, and other stakeholder interest in areas related to the School. Communication and Outreach Activities:
  • Support and supplement program faculty and department chair outreach efforts to create strong advisory committees and employment and work experience opportunities for technical students;
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with various program partners including industry, CareerLink, career/tech centers, economic development entities, Intermediate Units (IU's), Commerce and others;
  • Represent the college to internal and external organizations; represent the college at local meetings, including school districts, fairs, associations, and other meetings related to the position's responsibilities;
  • Develop, support, and maintain collaborations and partnerships;
  • Maintain communications across the college campuses including bringing outside initiatives to campus;
  • Develop and manage articulation and transfer agreements;
  • Assist in content management of website, schedule, and catalogs as these pertain to the specific School and workforce development initiatives. - (Essential)
