**This recruitment is to fill vacancies on 3rd shift (Grave shift or Night Shift)**

Shift hours available are from 9:30PM to 7:30AM, or 6:00PM to 4:00AM, weekend work.

Shift differentials pay of up to $1.00/hour on top of your hourly rate for hours worked between 6pm Friday through 6am Monday.

The Victim Notification Specialist - Victim's Assistance & Notification Unit (VANU) performs specialized clerical and advocacy work involving victim services. This position provides information and responds to inquiries from victims of crime as well as other agencies, processes victim notification paperwork, contacts victims, assists victims in delivering impact statements and attends Initial Appearance Court hearings. This role must exercise considerable care and sound judgment in the release of sensitive information in accordance with state law, court decision or order, and/or Office Policy.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience performing office, administrative, and clerical duties.

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements

  • In order to be considered for employment with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, successful candidates must not have a revoked or suspended driver's license.
  • Training to be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll ; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
  • Within six (6) months of employment or assignment must train, functionally test and affirm the proficiency of terminal operations to assure compliance with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)CJISpolicy and regulations, and successfully retest every two (2) years.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Exercises independent judgment within legal guidelines, and reads, comprehends and interprets state, county and MCSO laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Researches the Superior Court Initial Appearance (IA) ICIS system and the Sheriff's Office Database (SHIELD) for all detainees with victim related charges to interpret and determine proper hold and/or release orders.
  • Responds to inquiries received from voicemail, email, public telephone, or in person and provides information regarding inmate charges, status, and dispositions.
  • Meets with crime victims or collects electronic/fax transmission of Orders of Protection to facilitate delivery and Service by Detention staff.
  • Receives and distributes information and documents from other judicial and law enforcement offices regarding in-custody defendants with victim related charges.
  • Monitors and maintains office equipment and supplies.
  • Inputs, creates, tracks, and maintains victim notification information.
  • Processes paperwork related to victim notification, including entering data intoSHIELD,notifying victims of their legal rights as defined by Arizona law when arrests have been made in their case and when suspects have been released from custody, and answering victims' questions regarding their legal rights.
  • Accompanies crime victims to IA court and facilitates delivery of impact statements and conversation with court staff.
  • Initiates and processes all release notifications for crime victims in the custody of all MCSO jails.
  • Attends eligible National Advocate Credential Program trainings, earns and maintains updated certification credentials and knowledge of victim advocacy.
  • Provides quality assurance to detect and correct data errors inSHIELD.
  • Educates crime victims of their rights per ARS Title 13 Chapter 40 and the Arizona Constitution on Victim Bill of Rights.
  • Refers crime victims to applicable resources and referrals.
  • Maintains active victim files and archives as required by Arizona State Retention Schedules.
  • Attends required meetings and scheduled training as directed by the VANU Supervisor.
  • Be present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs.
