Job Description

A NIH funded postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Medicine of University of Medicine and Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center to study the roles of extracellular vehicles and microRNAs in diet-induced obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension. The successful candidate will establish a high fat diet induced obesity model and maintain mouse colonies and records. Techniques, including cell culture, gene expression, RNA/DNA analysis, ex vivo vascular and in vivo mouse experiments will be applied

Specific responsibilities of the job will include but are not limited to: the design and execution of experiments aimed at testing the scientific hypotheses as outlined in the funded grant application; detailed analysis of the experimental data and reporting of said data in a format that is easily accessible to members of the laboratory and is presented in a manner that readily conveys the information; experience in manuscript and grant proposal writing; mentoring/training of graduate research assistants and laboratory technicians as necessary to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory; regular communication of research progress with the PI and other members of the laboratory.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: PhD or equivalent by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. Candidates with additional expertise in the study of exosomes and FACS analysis, are particularly encouraged to apply.
