Job Description

The HIM Specialist I is responsible for the daily validation and reconciliation of patient documentation, chart preparation and scanning for the facility's legal medical record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Chart assembly/validation with loose sheet analysis via the One Content system with follow up of missing documentation

  • Emergency Room chart analysis

  • Facility and clinic scanning with QA of scanned images, documentation of findings and corrective action

  • Timely and accurate indexing of patient information

  • Processing myCare activation requests

  • Validating and processing Advance Care Planning documentation via Epic.

  • Validation of insurance/payor requests for release of information and create/scan requests into the release module

  • Assist patients in the lobby with completion of record requests

  • Prepares medical records for transportation to off-site storage facility for record retention to include fetal monitor strips using chart tracking software

  • Prepares productivity reports using Excel

  • Opens and processes mail

  • The HIM Specialist I adheres to all ECH and HIM policies and procedures and will be required to work occasional weekends and holidays as scheduled. May be required to work alternate shifts / alternate campuses and other duties as assigned to meet operational needs of the department.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience with basic office equipment.

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office to include Outlook Word and Excel.

  • Prior experience working independently and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Attention to detail in order to differentiate text and numeric sequences.

  • Basic understanding of hospital HIM operations.

  • Experience in Health Information Department or other healthcare area preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, preferred

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

This position does not generally requires limited contact with patients, but may communicate with patients of all age categories.

Salary Range:

$25.44 - $38.16 USD Hourly
