Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The University of the Pacific, Harold S. Jacoby Center is partnered with Stockton Unified School District to provide after school program services to elementary students enrolled in STEP-Up programs. We are looking for candidates who enjoy working with elementary students and have a passion for science and/or the arts.
Essential Functions

  • Actively guide, teach and lead a group of fifteen to twenty (15-20) elementary students in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities.
  • Maintain and ensure a safe environment for all students.
  • Plan, create, implement and submit lesson plans that primarily focus on science or art.
  • Establish and enforce rules, routines and expectations with group of students.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment by addressing behavior issues as they arise.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Role model and mentor elementary student.
  • Exhibits positive and enthusiastic energy while working with children.
  • Adhere to dress code and policy procedures.
  • Reviews and submits timesheets in accordance with the due dates.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Forty-eight (48) completed college units or Paraprofessional Certificate or a Paraprofessional Proficiency Passing Test Letter.
  • Able to clear Fingerprint Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Available during program hours.
  • Science or Art concentration.
  • Experience in Coding or Theatre/Drama.
  • Basic Behavioral Management experience.
  • One or more year in experience working with elementary students.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to work independent.
  • Science or Art experience.
  • Ability to engage students in activities.
  • Creativity or Coding skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Duties require constant walking, standing, bending and simple grasping. Occasional climbing chairs, stooping and reaching. Constant communication using both spoken and written means. May be required to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:

Hiring Range $20.00 - $25.56 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
