The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed medical practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness. This position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. Patient Care: Responsible for practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.
Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, medical providers and all levels of healthcare.
Teamwork: Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
Technical Competence: Uses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation through competency testing.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED Required. Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office setting preferred. Licensure: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) credentials or must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire through a recognized national professional association such as:
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: BLS required. Ability to successfully complete general and department role based specific skills validation and competency testing. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 17A, Medical Technician, Other Techs Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand The job requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally. For any weight over 35 lbs. use Safe Handling Equipment.
