The University of Virginia's Karsh Institute of Democracy seeks applications for a Practitioner Fellow in Democracy. Fellows are practitioners and industry leaders who demonstrate a connection between their work and the Karsh Institute's mission of understanding, defending, and invigorating the institutions, practices, and cultural underpinnings that are the foundations of democracy. The fellowship will support an individual project that aligns with the Karsh Institute's priorities. The fellow will be expected to be an active participant in the UVA community and will be invited to attend lectures, visit classes, and engage with students, faculty, staff, and the local community, as appropriate. The fellow will be required to present their work and/or participate in public and private workshops and events, as well as provide regular updates on progress towards the completion of their fellowship project. While this position will not require full-time residency in Charlottesville, the fellow will be expected to participate in some events and programs on Grounds. The dates of these engagements will be negotiated depending on schedule. Applicants are required to submit a project proposal, not to exceed three pages, describing the work they would like to complete during the fellowship. Proposals should include a timeline for the project, an explanation of the potential impact of the project, and a description of how the applicant envisions engaging with the UVA community, including both faculty and students, during their appointment. Required Qualifications: A bachelor's and 3 years of experience with relevant work, especially as it relates to democracy and democratic institutions and culture and engagement with diverse groups of individuals and organizations. This position is a part-time restricted position with a proposed start date is January 2025 and would have a term limit of 1 year.Anticipated Salary is $38,000.
