JOB TITLE:

Post Doctoral Research Associate

JOB PURPOSE:

Postdoctoral Associates are temporary fixed term Faculty dedicated to the pursuit of greater professional expertise after the attainment of the doctoral degree. This category recognizes that doctoral recipients in some disciplines may require intensive advanced work in a particular discipline before seeking permanent employment. Postdoctoral Associates are not eligible for extended-term appointments. It is characteristic of Postdoctoral Associates to work with a small set of faculty mentors who are responsible for directing the employee's research and training. The temporary nature of internships, the precariousness of grant funding, and the desire of many Postdoctoral Associates to acquire permanent employment early in their careers call for a specific set of governing regulations for this category of employee.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Wyoming is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in physics, materials sciences, electrical engineering, or a closely related area. The successful candidates will participate in the research program of Prof. Jifa Tian's research lab to investigate the nontrivial quantum phenomena in 2D materials. The project involves 2D materials preparation and handling, quantum device fabrication, and transport measurements at low temperatures. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated ability to carry out effective and productive research, demonstrated ability for effective communication with faculty, staff, and students, and experience in at least one of the above-mentioned areas. Applications must be submitted electronically and include a cover letter, CV, and statement of research interests. Applicants should also arrange for three reference letters to be submitted to jtian@uwyo.edu, indicating the appropriate job number in the subject line. This is a limited-term appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found.

The University of Wyoming is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, marital, veteran or any other legally protected status.
