Summary

As a part of the Landside Transportation Rail Execution group, this position is responsible for driving efficient and cost-effective operations within our intermodal rail network through close collaboration with rail vendors as well as internal stakeholders such as truck delivery, procurement, equipment, product, and sales. The ideal candidate will be experienced in rail operations, work effectively across departments, drive accountability through understanding of vendor agreements and data, and maintain a continuous improvement mindset. This is critical to the overall success of the Maersk North American Landside Delivery Product.

Responsibilities

Oversee movement of rail cargo

  • Monitor cargo within rail network to ensure timely and safe delivery
  • Monitor terminal rail and on-rail dwells
  • Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to proactively identify and resolve issues

Vendor Management

  • Build strong and collaborative relationships with assigned rail vendors
  • Subject matter expert on vendor network, capabilities, and agreements
  • Challenge rail vendors to drive accountability with railroads and control cost exposure
  • Monitor health of network and drive proactive actions to circumvent delays or cost increases

Rail Operations Subject Matter Expert

  • Serve as escalation point and subject matter expert for a broad internal stakeholder landscape
  • Guide on operational feasibility of contingencies, ad hoc solutions, and new product offerings
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, product, sales, and finance, to ensure alignment and effective communication within the organization
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support positive customer outcomes and protect profitability

Data Visibility

  • Use data to measure adherence to assigned performance indicators and identify problem areas
  • Dynamically leverage available reporting to drive calculated business decisions, as well as document decisions, impact, key assumptions and risks in analyses

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement solutions
  • Continuously seek ways to improve processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness, as well as reduce costs

Education and Experience

  • College Degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation and/or logistics, preferably associated with rail
  • Self-motivated and independent with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills, supporting corporate policy and objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications in a networked environment

Pay Range:

  • $68,000-$72,000*

*The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
