Position Profile

This position will be responsible for design and construction observation of building and facility mechanical systems for a variety of industrial, educational, institutional, governmental, and commercial projects. These systems will include HVAC and energy systems of varying types and sizes (including temperature controls and energy management systems), plumbing systems, special piping systems (for hospitals, laboratories, etc.) and fire protection systems.

Studies may include due diligence studies of existing systems, feasibility and conceptual design studies with preliminary construction cost estimates, energy audits and analyses, indoor air quality evaluation studies and utility master plan reports.

This role not only includes being the task manager and professional of record for projects, but also supervising select mechanical technical personnel in Hanson's offices across the country and supporting the mechanical discipline manager with ongoing workflow.

A Day in the Life of an Associate Mechanical Discipline Manager at Hanson

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  • Supervise technical personnel assigned to the Discipline to comply with Hanson HR policies, develop redundant resources, and deliver standardized performance.
  • Assist the mechanical discipline manager by:
    • Executing projects and prepare technical deliverables to meet project requirements.
    • Assisting with forecasting technical resource needs, controlling workflow/assignments, tracking/reporting utilization and resolution of overload/underload conditions.
    • Working with other Discipline Managers and technical personnel to ensure Hanson's and the Discipline's position as a technical leader in the industry through presenting and authoring technical information (e.g. conferences, trade associations, publications, etc.).
    • Providing input to the strategic planning process relative to current and future technical areas of competency, and emerging technologies and practices.
    • Providing input on Base Compensation, Incentive Compensation, Functional Titles and Classifications.
    • Providing technical support for proposals/pursuits, including go/no-go decisions, scoping, costing, and scheduling.
    • Providing technical support for agreement preparation.
    • Identifying gaps and overlaps in skills and personnel among the disciplines.
    • Optimizing workflow and technical assignments to balance available resources to project needs.
  • Cooperate to implement, track and document compliance with HR policies and personnel reviews.
  • Cooperate to implement, track and document Learning and Development.
  • Work under the supervision and direction of the Hanson Facilities Practice Lead.

What We're Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent post-secondary degree.
  • Licensure as a professional engineer in Mechanical Engineering in Florida, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Minimum of 6 years in the consulting professional services industry, in the Mechanical Engineering Discipline, with a specific focus on HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection.
  • Specific technical experience with the preparation of mechanical construction drawings, specifications, submittals review and construction administration.
  • Supervisory experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience

  • At least 5 years in the consulting professional services industry, in the Mechanical Engineering Discipline, with a specific focus on HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection
  • LEED accreditation
  • Knowledge of mechanical, building, and energy codes
  • Ability to collaborate on multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to assume task leadership responsibilities by providing guidance to CAD/Revit technicians and other Engineers/Designers
  • Experience observing field conditions, mechanical construction, and the ability to effectively communicate with contractors
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Familiarity with energy analysis software i.e. ComCheck
  • Experience with load calculation and energy modeling software such as Trane Trace 700.
  • Experience with energy audits, MEP commissioning, and retro-commissioning.
  • Supervisory experience, with a preference for candidates managing multiple people across multiple geographies

Salary Range: $102,000 - $130,000
