About the College/Unit/Department
THE PROGRAM: The Department of Theatre and Film Studies supports both film and theatrical production at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including an MFA in Film Production, three MFAs in design (costume, set and lighting), and an MFA in digital media for both live and recorded media. At the core of the 3-year Design MFA program is a focus on scenography training with students choosing primary, secondary, and tertiary areas of interest (scenic, lighting, costuming, or digital media). Our annual production season includes four fully produced theatrical productions, numerous MFA film productions, and class-related film, animation and game productions.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Theatre and Film Studies is a unit of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The NAST-accredited department encompasses the creation, practice, scholarship, and pedagogy in a wide range of media, including stage, film and 3D computer animation. We offer B.A. degrees in theatre and in film studies, MFA degrees in performance, design/technology and dramatic media, and the Ph.D. in theatre and performance studies.
