Gundersen Health System is seeking a full-time, salaried Infection Preventionist/Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement/Education RN for Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, MN.

What you will do:

  • 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week), day shift
  • Provide infection surveillance and management, staff education and monitoring of required education, assist with care center surveys, and lead quality improvement activities.
  • Back-up floor nursing coverage/cover on-call every 3rd weekend
What you need:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minnesota RN License
  • 1 year of long-term care experience, RN experience preferred
  • Infection Preventionist certificate required within 3 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support CPR
  • Obtain CPR Instructor within 3 months of hire.

Job Description: The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)/ Quality Assurance (QA) & Performance Improvement (PI)/Education RN serves the organization in the areas of infection prevention and control (IPCP), quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI), and education. In addition, the role serves as champion for all infection control practices, nursing skills and quality improvement indicatives by assisting in meeting regulatory standards, complying with corporate policy, and promotes best practices in resident care. This position has the authority to institute infection control measures as deemed necessary to protect residents, families, and employees. The role also serves as the educational nurse to ensure nursing competencies and certifications.

Major Responsibilities:

Infection Prevention and Control duties:

  • Infection surveillance
  • Handle Outbreaks
  • Principles of standard precautions (e.g., content on hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, injection safety, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, environmental cleaning and disinfection, and reprocessing reusable resident care equipment),
  • Principles of transmission-based precautions,
  • Resident care activities (e.g., use and care of indwelling urinary and central venous catheters, wound management, and point-of-care blood testing),
  • Water and linen management,
  • Preventing respiratory infections (e.g., influenza, pneumonia) and tuberculosis prevention,
  • Occupational health considerations (e.g., employee vaccinations, exposure control plan, and work exclusions),
  • Antibiotic stewardship,
  • Care transitions
  • Remain current with infection prevention and control issues and be aware of national organizations' guidelines as well as those from national/state/local public health authorities (e.g., emerging pathogens).

Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI)

  • utilize team building, listening, communication, conflict resolution, effective use of resources, and conflict resolution skills on a regular basis.
  • Will assure the improvement activities are documented and reported within the organization and externally as appropriate.
  • Will assist with any MDH survey as it might occur and assist with MDS/CASPER report analyses.
  • monitoring and documentation of infections for the residents and staff in facility including regular evaluations for trends. If trends are found, these should be reported to the Director of Nursing, safety committee and reviewed during the quarterly QA meeting.
  • Will monitor and oversee TB testing for all residents and staff to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Will also monitor and oversee the influenza vaccination program for staff and residents.
  • Position will establish policies and procedures to reflect regulatory requirements and or best practices and routinely surveillance practices and implement changes based on findings.

Education RN

  • Serve as a staff educator in specific topics identified in the facility
  • Provide oversight of the online educational course assignments and monitoring for staff completion.
  • Liaison/trainer for MN On Track CNA certification program
  • Support new hire orientation
  • Support staff competency testing
  • Mentor staff for performance improvements
  • Perform training related to specific organizational programs

Responsible for maintaining current CPR certifications for staff

Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
Ensures patient safety.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Associate Degree in Nursing

DESIRED

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Project Management experience/PDSA

Specialized training in Infection prevention and control or Certification of Infection Prevention and Control (CIC)

Work Experience:

Preferred: One year Long Term Care experience

License and Certification

Current Valid Minnesota Registered Nurse License

Infection Preventionist certificate required within 3 months of hire

Current CPR certification or able to obtain in 3 months. Able to obtain CPR Instructor within

3 months of hire.

HOURS OF WORK:

Full-time, M-F, days;

Additionally, this role participates in a rotation that serves as back up for floor nursing, and must be able to be on call during weekends, holidays,
